Still think Tsukuyomi should've revived Aqua again in a new child's body and had a timeskip reunion chapter with a Ruby in her mid 20s. Besides the obvious benefit of not ending with everyone being punished for Aqua's insanely selfish and childish actions where he learns NOTHING about valuing the people he cares about, it would also provide the opportunity to actually explain what Tsukuyomi's deal was, another one of Aka's infamous loose ends.
Many people think that Aka simply threw her out of the plot since her actions up to this point clearly motivated and developed Aqua away from suicide and other things. Therefore, he simply threw her away so as not to interfere, as he had already done with Akane, without allowing her to predict Aqua's disastrous actions. Typically, LN, on the contrary, is partially moving in this direction.

I...just can't understand the decisions Aka made in this story. Several heroines that get fucked over, an incest tease that got dropped faster than it developed, the most useless god ever put to literature, and a garbage villain that for some reason required the protag to commit a murder-suicide off some random cliff over an ocean. The last chapters are a failure of legendary proportions for such a popular manga.

Honestly it takes a good amount of effort to make the end of Love is War look good and well wrapped up so I guess OnK has that going for it.

With this extra material I'm convinced like half the characters in this series are just going to go on living soulless empty lives constantly thinking about Aqua. If this wasn't the fucking end of the manga it would almost be kind of interesting to see these people turn their lives around (not that it excuses how awful him killing himself is), but these last few pages just seem to reinforce how retarded martyring himself was and how much more damage it's causing. Nice that his own suicide made his step brother suicidal, that and adding on even more to Akane's suffering. Seeing all these characters get boiled down to one panel recovery arcs in the last two chapters is so fun and neat after seeing their personal struggles develop in detail over the past few years.

Kind of funny how I was looking forward to season 3 a few months ago, weird how it only takes a few chapters and a shit ending to kill any love I have for this series.
Exactly. This is probably the most effective killing of my and other people’s hype about the new season in my memory. Not even because people will already know how it ended, but simply because it ended so badly in both senses that the anime simply depreciates in your eyes. I even forgot that I didn't like anything about Kaguya's ending after that.

Taiki is the real MVP here, yes. The dude simply destroyed the entire ending of the manga with a couple of words and loudly pointed his finger at the delusion of Aqua’s act.

This is one of the main topics in manga fandom right now. Aka apparently wanted to make a bait and switch shocking ending that would get people talking about the manga, but it looks like things clearly didn't turn out the way he thought. For example, he has hardly been on Twitter for several months now. But even such an immature move still doesn't explain many things like rushed execution and massive plot holes and negative implications.

Moreover, the way it was written seems to motivate suicidal people to break off all social contacts and rush through it without thinking about anything, because “don’t worry, your relatives will deal with it in time.”
Which is even funnier (in a bad way), creating this narration you've mentioned about romanticizing suicide and how "things will be alright" after the deed is done in a main story, just to trying to back up from this exact thoughts of his in a

FUCKING SPECIAL
is a PEAK garbage and the biggest bullshit Aka could've pull out. Like, Jesus, I'm cringing so hard rn after reading this. I never thought I could be more disappointed by Akasaka, but man, he can deliver some hard punches.

Should I mention that this is the second retcon of the suicide theme in this manga? Think back to Akane's arc and how powerfully it critiqued suicide, let alone suicide due to career-destroying cyberbullying. Now Aqua literally committed suicide formally due to attempts to save Ruby's career (so that she would not be bullied online as the sister of a murderer, yeah) and this is portrayed as a justifiable thing. That is, Aka actually changes his approach to the same topic twice in the manga when he somehow needs to change the direction of things or when the audience is potentially angry with him.

Remember initially the entire marketing gimmick was that Oshi no Ko will "dEcOnStRuCt", "cRiTiQuE" and other buzzwords against the idol industry? LOL.

The whole shit was fillers upon fillers, and an ad for Japanese entertainment by Japan Tourism.
should change the title to "the References" instead..

How do I care so little about this?

I read OnK from the literal first chapter release.

Now it's the final chapter and I am utterly numb, skipping all the small text and skimming without any interest.

I think I had forgotten it even existed before the notification

Honestly, I wish the story just went the "incest" route. Like, fuck it, just go all the way and cement the manga in history as the most based normie manga ever made. But no, in this shitty timeline Aka or someone else in power decided to just burn the plot down.

...That's it? Man, what a f*cking disappointment, no big reveals, no satisfying concludion, and I am only left angry and depressed.

Bravo Aka, you managed to utterly kill my interest in your manga, the anime, and your future works.

It heartens me to see the japanese fans share my sentiment in this being a bad ending.

I can't believe i wasted 4 years of my life on this...

Considering how romance has played out in the story so far, it looked like Kana x Aqua. But in the end Aka just threw all the romance into the trash bin and we basically see LN trying to make everything into very weird Aqua x Akane. A lot of people expected LN to be a yuri bait, but it's mostly about how Kana moves on, becoming a work-wedded person with no love life, while Akane actually becomes a more significant female character even than Ruby. It's like all this time Aka secretly disliked Kana and wanted to make his avatar Akane the true heroine.
There was a LN? Jeez the way you described it Kana who was the most naive and cheerful person becomes a dead career woman when the man she loves dies and no one in her mind can take his place.

Akane who was rejected should've moved on but doesn't and what happened to Ruby? I'm curious. Also people thought there would be yuri bait? Why? Akane and Kana are afaik straight and people don't just start fucking when a guy they loved dies.

I was rooting for that ending too. Like it would take the doing everything for his former patient to it's logical conclusion. What annoyed me was introducing this ship and then tossing to the wind immediately. Only people latched onto to it because they were okay with the idea. Why bother if you're not going to do anything with it. Everything about this story is just missed potential and story beats.

I feel like in the long run Oshi no Ko will just become another story that will be only remembered because of the scandalous ending and fan controversy over it. Like now, Usagi Drop is only remembered for how the adaptations solved the problem of the time skip arc, or how the anime ruined the Neverland adaptation. It's just sad that the authors continue to step on the same rake over and over again.

People were obsessed with the idea that Aqua's death made this ship the only one possible (to such an extent that any illustrations with two, even just next to each other, were marked with the name of the ship), because you apparently had to connect all the characters to each other in one way or another. Plus the very fact of the announcement of the LN about the two of them (reminiscent of the story with the LN about the girls of the FF7 remake). In the end, LN simply developed and closed the subplot of their rivalry, further showing how Kana became a successful actress without a personal life, while Akane turns into a new protagonist and essentially spends all her time exploring and looking for opportunities to bring Aqua back.

It seems Aka simultaneously wanted to appease fans by dumping a mountain of gifts on a favorite character and teasing a possible sequel for another, but judging by the extra, this will either remain an open end or was completely closed somewhere behind the scenes. Aka just can't help but disappoint.

There is a fan theory that this is what they originally wanted, but after the publisher turned it down, they were forced to quickly scrap the whole thing and end it due to loss of interest and not meeting their expectations. At least Mengo herself seriously or semi-seriously stated her desire for such an ending, even going so far as to intend to write douji about it.

Oh... I see. Ye people really can't understand these days that characters don't have to be in a gay pairing and can just be close friends. It's quite pathetic.

As for the the fan theory on the incest route being taken away that makes sense to me.
