thanks for the feedback everyone!

main reason not to use idol is that "idol" is a pretty normal word vs. "oshi" being something that's more subculture terminology. TLing it and having him be like, "I don't get what idols are..." doesn't really make sense because an idol is pretty self-evident and easy to identify/define, while an oshi is more a person/character that you're a big fan of, doesn't have a strict definition, and is terminology that's not widely used outside of subculture spheres. Substituting "bias" for "idol" takes it a step further than "being unfamiliar," which is all that he (and most people) will be.

"bias" is the English equivalent (derived from kpop fandoms). we prefer to translate entirely in English where possible, and "oshi" isn't in the English vernacular, while "bias" is.

that said, I'll look to update just to use oshi since it seems introducing the above is proving to be problematic, pending discussion with others working on the series. thanks again, and thanks for reading!

As usual average manga reader plebs can't appreicate good translation.

"Stupid question, but why not just leave it as oshi?" Yes that is a stupid question.

"Leaving it as oshi or translating it as idol is perfectly fine. Bias is not a term I had ever heard before, and it feels a bit out of place." Why fine when you can have great? Bias is not a term you have heard before because it is used in the literal sense of the word. It feels out of place because you are not competent in english.

"Oshi is more common thanks to certain manganime" How is that related when using it here does not correctly reflect how it is being used in the actual japanese manga.

The amount of work that goes into translating manga far exceeds the amount of work you will ever do in your life in anything meaningful. Your mind cannot comprehend the complex decisions being made into every minute detail to make this manga translation great and all you can do is leave some ignorant criticism without even a hint of gratefulness for the time and effort of these volunteers.

Learn some respect.

I am a native English speaker who has translated manga and I prefer oshi to bias. I have minimal interaction with kpop fandom, so bias in this sense is outside of what sounds natural to me.

Also, it's not a good look to jump directly into ad hominem 'you're just a stupid person' when someone legitimately disagrees with a decision you like - especially given that their disagreement was entirely polite and good-faith. Translation is hard, and usually there's multiple decent answers.

You're taking this personally for no reason, especially when the person who translated and uploaded already responded explaining their thought process.

People left their feedback in a constructive way. Not a single person here is being unappreciative of the work that went into it or things as a whole. Do you honestly and truly expect someone to improve without feedback? Or learn how to handle these kind of decisions without feedback? Or even how to handle criticism made without ever receiving any?

Nobody here is being disrespectful except for you and you should honestly take a step back and follow your own advice.

Thanks for the chapter, if you don't want to use Oshi maybe fav will do the work? I also, like previous commenters, would prefer Oshi, but since the scan has said that they would rather do a full English translation.
