That would only take away the tree's help, he'd still have to take it from the antagonist somehow, so either way conflict is inevitable. It also does not solve the key issue: the nobles of Alzer will continue to go after him using his people, because they just see him as a stuck up foreigner that needs to be put in his place. What he's about to do is meant to terrify everyone into leaving them alone.

wdym, the seal was ready to blow princes' heads off, and it was also hovering over the ship ready to punish whoever tried to take it by force. Naturally this means it would also forcefully eject the antagonist the moment Leon wins the duel and prevent any harm from coming to Leon if the antagonist tries to prevent Leon from boarding it.
Nobles have to obey the will of their sacred tree, so not a problem too. Gosh, this tree sure is convenient.

The only satisfactory ending to this Republic arc would be for the sacred tree to get utterly destroyed. It would basically shatter the very core of that corrupt country. This particular arc has such a stupid basis, Leon losing his ship because someone else with no right to it used it as betting collateral, that it's difficult to really care about it. It's already challenging to care in general with Leon's difficult personality, but at least every now and then he has those great moments. But it would be better if the foundation for those great moments made sense.

He should simply have killed all the male "protagonists" (maybe not those on his own team), and then let the chips fall where they may.
Maybe over...kill ... But I'm so tired of these story-telling structures.
I mean I do love Japan, sort of, but they have this. And then they combine it with some horrible misogyny, seriously weird societal power imbalances, and it just goes on ...
I guess I have a hard time fitting the various parts together in a way which makes sense.

I mean if it's literally about getting food on the table, and a roof over one's head, this is defensible.
Otherwise, wouldn't it be better to start with a new story which the mangaka/author really cares about?
