Sometimes I forget Marie was previously a middle-aged woman with a daughter born out of wedlock, and was an extremely irresponsible mother whose child basically had to be raised by relatives. It felt weird to see Leon and Luxion roasting her over her (lack of) parenting while she looked like a petite teenager.
Freaking finally, the girls confess to Leon in no uncertain terms. An act of proper communication, which puts the ball in his court to respond. He can no longer hide behind misunderstandings or feigning ignorance. Right?
...Too bad we don't get a serious answer from him this time. So he says he loves them both, but it was a noncommittal answer intended to please both girls and allow him to keep running away from thinking about it. Reading between the lines, it was just a nicer way to say "I haven't really decided yet, but I don't want to reject anyone, so I'll say both even if I'm not 100% sure I want both." Anyway, the girls probably realized this from his half-assed delivery and gave him a bunch of comedic slaps for that non-answer. Someone else in this thread mentioned that Leon could've said it much better, but he dropped the ball... in the end, the stupid status quo is maintained. Despite double confessions.
"I'm super happy both of you love me, but honestly I haven't thought about it yet, please give me some time to think it over. The war just ended and I need to sort out my feelings." followed after a few days by "I've thought it over, and I'm now 100% sure that I love you both, I need you, please be my wives." would be a better way to have done this. It would be more believable than a nonchalant and easy "I love you both!"
The king might look and act like a dumbass most of the time, but his action here promoting Leon can also be seen as a calculated act by an adult and a politician, to keep someone super useful like Leon around. So I guess he's not that much of a figurehead after all... (or he was urged by his advisers beforehand to do this). Anyway, this only makes it easier for the duke to allow Angie to marry him. Now he doesn't need to pretend to disown his daughter anymore since he's like only a rank or two below them now.
