Made no sense to me either, I don't think seasons change. Maybe it's difficult to translate the Japanese meaning

I think the implication is they've traveled significantly south to where there some summer weather on that day. Whereas where they are its either cloudy or raining that day.

The spanish translators interpreted that line in a completely different way.

"We can't play in winter, so we should enjoy summer as much as we can"

Now i can't say which translation is more correct, but the spanish one certainly makes more sense to me.
