Whenever Talas appears without her head coverings it’s hair porn time. She’s so beautiful

I'm rereading Emma and maybe it's a problem that Mori has, difficulty conveying the passage of time.
Other authors manage to show the time early with the changing of the seasons, but both in Emma and here you almost don't the changing seasons, it's not easy to see them then changing, which leads to this doubt.

No no. ;) They were in Turkey and now they're passing Persia again to go back toward eastern regions of Turkmans and Uzbeks. I remember one of the chapters even had a map to show where Mr. Smith is passing when they first passed Persia towards Turkey.

There's even a Persian cat in there XD and Persian Architecture, Persian garden with its specific characteristics and fountains(a UNESCO heritage), Persian names, clothes, carpets and bath house architecture and culture (massaging so hard until they wish they were not born hehe), the laid back atmosphere, etc. I'm sure the title of the chapter is simply saying where they are actually.

So true. Just assuming Talas is a woman of that time who lived in a nomadic tent far away in the deserts and didn't have the chance to have education of those days I thought she can't speak Persian. As you mentioned many scholars of the region and even merchants could speak Persian and even Arabic.

It's strange how Mori's style resembles TONO in this chapter

Not sure why so many people are confused as to where this place is, since they're here the second time and we had a whole volume (7th) about Anis and Shirin not that long ago. In in that volume it was explained where it is.

Their whereabouts is in Iran, which was commonly known to Europe as Persia until somewhere about the middle of 20th century. This country is located directly east of the Ottoman Empire, bordering with it. Actually, even the word 'Persia' as one would know it is 'Iran' in their own language.

...There are many other examples of such naming conventions in the world. Indians call their country "Bharat", Egyptians call their land "Missr", in Finland they call their country "Suomi", the Japanese call their country "Nihon", and Germans call their country "Deutschland". By the same token, the language of Persia (Iran) has always been internationally known as Persian.

Most of the history has it noted as Persian gulf until 1935. In a nutshell, Farsi, Persian or Iran, they are all synonyms of the word referring to the Same civilisation and language...

@jak I don't see how it is a good joke either since it is a blasphemy against other culture. Don't blame that other people not have a good sense of humor while you don't realize that you don't have a good sense of humor yourself. Sex, gender, religion and other cultures are sensitive topics that no one should make joke about.

I think they speak some dialect of Turkic language ( i guess azerbaijani turkish which is belongs oğuz branch (Turkey's Turkish is in too.).). There are so many Turkic people in Iran that time and now too. But i'm surprised Talas understands their dialect. Yes she is Turkic too but it's could be hard to understand for her, i can say as a Turkish. Basic words are similar or same of course ( I, you, we, water, eat, meal...) but more complex conversations nearly impossible.

Ladies being scared at the notion of having rudimentary human rights.
Classic burqa-brides. Hikikomori in mind-set, but they take their isolation outside with them.

Bullshit. No subject is beyond the reach of humour. People who can't take a joke because of their "sensitivity" only warrant harsher humour... or outright condescension.

Imagine, being excited to go to the market, even ride a horse (car) or to not cover your face. I am thankful not to be a woman living in those times
