Like the author said, this is the end of Takashi &Co's story, I hope you enjoyed it!
I know that personally this is a story that will stay with me for a long time.
A personal thank you to anyone who has read so far and to those that commented with their impressions and feelings on it, both as the translation came out or to anyone reading this in the future.

If you liked Oyaccoco and want to check out some other works from this artist, you can try out:
  • Peleliu: Rakuen no Guernica (Official translation avaliable in French. Very recommended, it's one of my all time favorites!)
  • Sayonara Tama-chan (An autobiographical manga detaling the author's experience with testicular cancer.)

Finally, remember to support the official release!
Even if you don't know Japanese, just buying it digitally on Bookwalker Japan supports the author!

Below here a personal list of recommended works if you're looking for something that also deals with the themes of parenthood, generational trauma and remembrance. Not all of these explore the themes in a similar manner as this manga, but I still consider them tangentially related.

:meguuusad: Damn, author just gotta show his death huh? Thanks for the series Vitalis, found this 2 weeks ago and it has been a ride. Some of the situations were probably a bit too dramatic but with 19 chapters I think those are fitting fine to get readers getting the full roller coaster of emotions. Feels bittersweet man :meguuusad::fml:

Imo this was a happy ending. At worst it's bittersweet, his dad got to see his grandkid and overcome the trauma from his wife's death, and they were all able to move forward. Really could not have asked for anything better, especially after that accident.

Thank you for translating this to completion, I’m glad we finally have one of this author’s works fully translated to English! That author’s note at the end hit me like a truck, I really hope the author has been able to stay in good health after all these years, cancer is the worst.

Like others have said, this was a lovely, heavy, bittersweet read, and I enjoyed the way the author handled the characters. I’m particularly glad the author chose to keep Takashi’s dad alive even after the accident. Him tearing up outside the delivery room got to me :meguuusad: Although I would have loved to read more chapters (honestly an entire volume) about them reconciling and living together after the accident, I think it works to keep it open-ended and up to interpretation too. And although real life may not always have such closure, I’m really glad his dad got to see his grandchildren, and got a chance to witness the cycle breaking before his passing.

Like the author said, this is the end of Takashi &Co's story, I hope you enjoyed it!

Thank you for the rec list, I’ve been looking for more manga surrounding these themes! I’ll also throw in a few other works I’ve read that explore some of the themes in this manga (or are also tangential related). Most of these cover generational trauma (not as many works on parenthood specifically):
Danzi (manhwa)
Goodbye, Mom (manhwa)
Because I Love You (TANSAE) (manwha)
I Lived in a Shelter (manhwa)
You to Bakemono ni Naru Chichi ga Tsurai (manga)

Generational trauma is part and parcel of the Asian family experience, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I hope I don't pass it on to the next.

Thanks for the scanlation and recommendations.

Man... I've been waiting for an English release of the next chapter of Peleliu.

I usually eat something spicy to clear my sinuses in the morning, I read this instead today.

To know that the author penned this story to process their own grief makes it an even more powerful narrative. Thanks for translating

Thank you as well for both your comments and the recs as well! Scanlation is all about sharing your love and passion for a piece of art, so getting to hear other people's thoughts on it is what makes it worth it to me.
I believe Takeda is doing good health wise, he's still publishing a series on Young Animal, a spin-off to Peleliu detaling some extra stories and such, so I think we can surmise he's going strong!

Man... I've been waiting for an English release of the next chapter of Peleliu.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't give it a thought of doing it myself, but for now I will restrain. Peleliu has had an anime announced a good while ago, so keeping our fingers crossed that production went well I believe it should be coming out in the near future. And hopefully the anime will help boost interest for the manga, which I believe has a strong chance of getting picked up for an official translation by an English publisher. But if that ends up not happening, I might sneak in ahah.

Perfect ending and magnificent scanlation work. Thank you for bringing this gem to us.

I fully expected Hisashi to pass away after saving his son and daughter-in-law in the accident but that would have given Takashi eternal grief and regret, so this ending was much more beautiful.
