@Serenata I think she is somewhat of an outcast, her classmates are too afraid to talk to her. She became cruel because she didn't want to fulfill everyone's expectations of a beautiful-smart-kind girl, she is rather alone than put up a front and is waiting for someone to chase after her even when she is like this.

It's interesting, but I fear that the reasoning will not be as interesting as the premise. I could see a good number of possibilities, but I think something like a twin sister passing away or something would be a good conclusion. It feels like a lack of information will actually hurt this series in the long run.
