Merriam-Webster defines "peerless" as "matchless" and "incomparable". I'm not sure how you're interpreting it, but "peerless" in this context is obviously used both in a typical fashion ( i.e. superior in battle) and as an adjective of "dad", referencing his devotion to his children.
