No, it's a cheap cop out. The author pulls crucial elements to the puzzle out of his ass or hides them in a way that makes them impossible to see (the "mark" was just a crese in the original panel). It was never mentioned that the female teacher even was supposed to be at Yokohama - you'd think whether she was seen there by others or not would be the first thing the police would check and base their reasoning on that, but nope, not a peep. That's because this "intrigue" is hillariously weak if approached with a real investigator's mindset. Let's not even mention that the perp could keep an ironclad alibi if only he kept his story straight - because he was right, the whole argument was based on wild assumptions that would fall apart if he kept his cool.

I think the author just isn't bright enough to actually think of a good mystery with a logical deconstruction by the detective. It's common these days, mangakas don't even bother to properly research the topic at hand and this genere requires even more than that.
It gets worse when you realize it would’ve been impossible for the victim to put her signature on the perp’s clothes while being strangulated. Writing blind is already hard enough as it is. In this case, both their bodies would’ve been moving a lot during the commotion. Are we supposed to believe the killer was perfectly still while strangling the victim? Or that he wouldn’t notice she wasn’t struggling because she needed to write something? At best, she could’ve left a lipstick smudge on his clothes, but nothing that could realistically be read or recognized as a signature.

Not to mention the culprit should’ve noticed that the victim was only using one hand to try and break free. Then he would’ve noticed the lipstick lying around while packing her up. If she had thrown the lipstick away, it would’ve made a sound, and he would’ve checked for possible witnesses. Given how cautious he’s been so far, he would’ve wondered why she pulled out a lipstick in the first place, and checked if he had any stains anywhere on his body.

That's nothing compared to the poisoned streamer arc - we are asked to believe that a guy pretending to be dead would instantly be paralyzed and die silently for real after being stabbed by a poisoned needle. The author not only didn't bother to look up how "fast acting poisons" work, but also has a cartoonish understanding of the very concept. Utterly infantile, especially for this genere.
