On a more serious note, I understand the frustration with the notifications being buried under the usermenu, although personally my biggest issue with it is how far the mouse has to travel and the several other menu items surrounding the correct item, causing unnecessary cognitive load.

The fact is however that there are - currently - three different kinds of notifications and not all of them are typically equally as common. I believe it makes sense to group these notifications under one clean menu with only a few items rather than make a separate top-level icon for each of them, especially because friend requests and PMs don't seem to be nearly as common as mentions (maybe other people have a different experience, but I have doubts that anyone gets all three equally often). Things would get even dicier if we decide we need another notification category.

At any rate, the cognitive load and mouse travel time and distance are both clearly lessened compared to the current menu, even when technically speaking opening the mentions in the same tab still requires two mouse clicks. At least it's better than on mobile where you need three taps.

@teasday The cognitive load could easily be lessened by changing the order of the items listed. Since most people subconsciously would read from top to bottom it would make sense to have the 3 notification items at the top of the menu. (Especially having the notification one listed first)

As for other items i see being used frequently, It would be Forums, inbox, advanced search, (Maybe the random button).

@AbyssalMonkey My sentiments exactly. it is already a perfectly working, quick and easy to access feature. Its so minor of an issue/non-issue that its not even worth considering IMO.

there are 4 sections in the user name drop down sub menu's. Because its such a small non issue, the arranging of 3 of these categories really shouldn't matter. the only one i would say is important to not move would be logoff. The other 3 i see as interchangeable in their ordering. Since everything in there is quick and easy i see no issues with having the most commonly used section as the first to be listed on the menu.

But again this is such a non issue that i'm amazed this has already reached the third page. Personally i see this entire thing as "if it isn't broken and its already fast and easy, then don't fuck with it"
