The manga taking so long and the battles becoming more and more epic through the years through the art massively improving, new generations moves, gimmicks, etc getting added and so on, makes Red vs Misty look quaint at this point.
No way I'm ever gonna believe Pikachu can tank that Hyper Beam, much less be able to hit back good enough to take it down.

Red's just gonna have to get a good dose of the same plot armor Ash ended up receiving during Journeys.
Well, I'm sure it'll be a million times more believable here than there. And will look a million times better too.

IIRC that was a reference to Gen 2‘s Hyper Beam. It inverted the screen color during activation. Never felt the absolute power firing it or the dread being on the receiving end with other Gen’s Hyper Beam, at least, visually.

Edit: Checked - It’s both Gen 1 snd Gen 2, but after gen 3 they simply blackened the background.

My prediction for the next rounds are Red vs Lorelei, Green vs Blue (both of which are confirmed), Lance vs Steven (champion battle, teased in this chapter), and Agatha vs Bruno (leftover pairing but kind of teased in Bruno's backstory in 17.5). Then we get Red vs Lance (MC vs the strongest E4) and Green vs Agatha (ties to Oak).
