Pretty basic but fun ghost story!! Feels like it could be an actual urban legend.

Why is all this guys mangas so awful. They're all just such basic premises and never even try to do anything special. I've heard the argument "it's meant to be shitty and just cheap shock scares" but like that's not an excuse for it being bad. Going out of your way to make shit doesn't clear it from being shit

You're either a glutton for punishment (as it sounds like you've gone and read a bunch of it) or you in fact do enjoy and savor the mild and unique flavor of, as you put it..."shit" and will soon question both your sanity and tastes. It's similar to someone enjoying the Exorcist versus the weirdo's who prefer the Polonia brothers Feeders. Ah, life is as varied as the stars in the sky...

Ive read two of the guys works. This one and one where people eat like animal gore and then a comically shady guy comes out and is like "want to eat a dead fetus it's a hush hush operation" then it cuts to a literal warehouse filled with hundreds of people boldly eating babies. Like I said it's shit, this is the kind of writing that edgy 12 year olds produce.

In this one the mangaka has a perfect opportunity to milk the guilt or the tree slowly growing as the murderer tries to stifle it or move the body. But nah just instant page turn to the tree being fully grown with the guys face right there. And people say junji ito's one shots are bad

The Red Snake, Lullabies from Hell, Panorama of Hell, M Collection are all masterpieces of horror manga. You have read 2 of his most mid works and are surprised you didn't like it. He has over 100 oneshots, you have to find the good stuff.

If you want horror that explores guilt check out Yoshimi Seki or Ochazukenori or something. If those are too unique for you check out something more bland like Amagappa Shoujogun

Guilt was just an example of something that could flesh out this story specifically it's not something I want in every horror manga I read. I'll look at those ones you suggested
