Wow, I cannot believe that the first queen would say that and he just accepted it. She called him impure and sinful because of the non-royal blood flowing within him. I am very curious about what is going to happen.

Thank you so much for the translation!

yikes i dont like margarita, she was throwing shade at the dude while he was in the middle of comforting her, hell because of the title we know the mc is fucked coz she actually got pregnant, now i wonder if margarita will do something to her, like the classic:
''shes bullying me coz im ur official wife! she must want all the power of being queen''
followed by another classic:
''Just because u are carrying my child dont think i have to give u attention!'' with a horrible hatuful look on his face
all this while the mc just goes......WTF?

But wouldn’t you think it’s the whole tradition of ‘pure’ blood that has caused this? After all she is his cousin, and with limited numbers of ‘pure’ blood people the whole aristocracy are likely related and therefore the children are born to relatives and well, we all know it’s not good for fertility or the children to keep marrying and having children with relatives.

It is likely the Kings ‘impure’ blood from the affair is what resulted in him being healthier and then Berta got pregnant so quick because she is also healthier.

Remember people, having kids with relatives is bad.

@Tammy That won't stop me from pitying her. I never like illegitimate children born out of affair like ml anyway, and he's just as bad as his father from the way he treated his legal wife. And from what little spoiler that I've read so far, I don't like the way the author write her, just to make mc looked good.

@yumian I mean, he does not seem to be that great a person right now but with regards to how he is treating his wife, is she not the one who is 'sending' him multiple other ladies deliberately so he can impregnate them and 'wash his blood clean'? And I think it is ok for them to be surprised by Berta's pregnancy as well, it seems all his other attempts with his wife or the women she pushed at him either failed or resulted in miscarriage so assuming that no children would result from their 3 nights of 'politically obligated sex' is not a huge suspension of disbelief.

The first wife seems obsessed with 'purifying' the King's blood and that seems to upset him. I think he would have been perfectly happy staying loyal and married to only her his whole life. The situation with Berta seems more political and externally motivated anyway.

Not that I am defending his actions either, he seems a bit of an asshole, I wont blame him for being the child of an affair, that is not his fault. It is also likely he only became King because the previous one had no healthy or living children (likely also linked to the intermarriage of relatives resulting in unhealthy babies or reduced fertility that I mentioned in an earlier comment). Making him the only healthy survivor.

Its a shitty situation born of the countries own cultural obsession with 'pure' blood, Berta seems the most logical right now and its OK to pity the main wife but to me it seems much of her misery is her own obsession with having 'pure' children due to her own mindset.

@Tanarwater WN mentions the previous king had not been able to bear children with his legal noble wife, making the current king the only successor (despite his bloodline being less noble than liked).

Well that does nothing more than backup my points about the downsides of multiple generations of incest and inter-relational marriage and the negative effects it has on fertility and infants. Thank you for the info @zz2000.

>I never like children born from affairs anyway

What are you? At 17th century gossiping noblewoman? Evey decent person in this day and age knows a child even one born out of an affair is innocent

But I do agree with you on the point of first wife being cannon fodder. Isnt this bascislly remarried empress bit form the prspective of the second women?

@Tanarwater The first wife wanted to keep the royal bloodline pure again, which is kinda understandable since the royal family valued that a lot. And I doubt he would have been happy staying loyal and married to her only for the rest of his life. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all. Her misery is being written as villainness by the author.

So first off thank you. The story is interesting.
Next it really irks me that he apparently has gotten around and apparently with all people some what related to him and he’s seen as faulty because of his not fully royal status. And ps it’s obvious inbreeding causes issues historically so....it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out with “half” royal blood and now this princess from another country have a child I foresee drama. Not liking the ML. FL is strong and intelligent. She’s cool although pitiful since she’s not going to get her wish to return home.

@theilikepie It's different from Remarried Empress. It's because our MC did not even want to be there let alone SEDUCE him. It's entirely different to Trashta idiotic self.

@yumian Seriously, which one is more important: trying to have a 'pureblooded child' or just have any successor to the throne? Honestly, that line the First Queen saying "cleaning you of the sin of being only half-blood" or something like that speak volumes. She's too obsessed. Her 'misery' as you speak it is something that she brought upon herself. No child has ever sinned just by being born. not even children born out of affair. Also, saying that "apple did not fall far from the tree" about the king when we still did not know much about him is just being prejudiced.

@Thifa The first one. If he doesn't have any then the throne can (and should be) go to any of the (legitimate) royal family member. That is how it usually works in real life. Her misery is something the author forced on herself, so that the readers will hate her and support mc instead. Rather than Remarried Empress, the situation is more like Lady to Queen, but in this case it's the legal wife that is the villainess. Prejudiced? Please, he already acted like one by not consulting with the legal wife about taking the second wife. Also
he will have another child with one of the pure-blood concubine anyway.
