aparently there was this comic cover that was talked about on transformers tweeter (nothing notable, just idiots who hate seeing fanservice directed at men being upset about it), so I redrew it with the same fem seeker design someone on here made me come up with

I've had to transcribe this piece into the individual instrument parts by themselves because my mom and her colleagues can't find a free version. This image was from Violin I which I isolated recently. The only ones left I need to finish up after this are Violin II and Contrabasso.

got alot of free time today, so I decided to draw twice.

getting alot better with doing shadows AND lighting.
(at this point, I might as well try to see if I can get good enough at drawing to get commisioned instead of getting a summer job cause all my appications keep bouncing off)

used a cosplayer as reference for a drawing. not the first time I do it but a friend pointed out to me that I should draw better faces. (I agree with it just don't really know where to begin)

"re-animated" the elf nonsense gif but with a fox girl.
considering its the first time I attempt animation and I ha e no idea how it works. its pretty decent for containing only 4 frames (here's all the frames I used, as you guys can see, not only was some detail lost but also the eyes have been ficked up, guess I'll keep that in mind next time)

  • try to make your faces more symmetrical, at least for a front facing view? as for a three-quarters view, i'm personally not so good with those so i'm not sure what to say about them. usually i try to draw the face in a way that feels like it would be symmetrical if it were being seen from the front instead.
  • don't forget to draw eyebrows. when working on a face, i draw eyebrows second because to me they are the second most important facial features.
  • i notice a lot that when people are beginning to draw more seriously, their human characters look kinda creepy. i think this is because they're used to drawing basic smiley faces and rely on that habit when drawing more detailed faces. to me, a basic face is anything as long as it looks like eyes and a mouth. yknow, parelidolia. it's obviously not human, but it's simple enough to be endearing. however, if you try to draw just a more detailed mouth with a more detailed pair of eyes, it's creepy because the realism brings out the awareness that its so close to being human but isnt. the thing is that a basic face doesnt work the same as a more detailed face. and then their art gets trapped in the uncanny valley. eyebrows are important because they complete a detailed face and make it more likeable. if theyre missing, your brain will start to think what it's looking at isn't human.

also since this is the thread for posting something you worked on recently, i figured i should doodle some notes on the way i draw faces. it ended up being more about eyes because they're what draws most of my attention when i look at a face.

Was practicing since I got a bit sick last month so here's some of my characters from my webcomic (excuse the self-promotion), with one of them dressed as a Pomni.
I'll post the 2nd bit of practice tomorrow!

when I was a kid, I used to draw a smiley face first, then draw from it to create whatever abomination I could come up with in my mind

this is a modern attempt at doing something like that, and I encourage other artists to do so, because creativity

take any facial expression, like a smiley face, a frown, a laugh or an angry face, and try to draw FROM it

not around it like you're drawing a body for the face, draw FROM the facial expression, like what I've done here
