trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but yeahhhhhhh…or embraces those politics. A great many manga have an underlying message that present Japanese society is very well ordered.
ah, that's interrogation training. i didn't do that, though.handcuffed, blindfolded, gagged, and forced to kneel for 8 hours
The tone of it reads as "educational" as in it thinks this stuff is interesting and is trying to present the facts of prison life in a neutral manner. Of course being "neutral" in this context can be seen as endorsing it. That said, I'm honestly kind of surprised at how non-judgementally it's presenting the PRISONERS too, implying that they are just ordinary people trying to survive their situation, and not focusing at all on them being sinners who deserve it or whatever.like it started w her going to jail for marijuana which had me thinkin itd be a comedy w like slight overtones of the stupidity of prison systems but instead its felt more like a puff piece ? it kinda seems like the author didnt consider the politics of the setting at all and just wanted to do something a little unique which is wild to me
Yeah ur right about the prisoners being presented non-judgmentally for sure, I hadn't considered that , the marijuana thing makes sense too (with a bit of japans insane anti-weed culture)The tone of it reads as "educational" as in it thinks this stuff is interesting and is trying to present the facts of prison life in a neutral manner. I feel like marijuana in particular was chosen because it's a victimless crime so you don't feel negatively about the protagonist, although of course it also loves to call her a stupid pothead.
not training if you dont consent. that's straight up good old fashion tortureI've only just realised that basically the entire manga up until now (with the exception of solitary) sounds exactly like basic training lmao
strict times, punishments for the smallest of infractions, sharing a tiny room with other people (though in my case we were 12 people, not 4), menial labour, etc.
ah, that's interrogation training. i didn't do that, though.
it's kinda like scare tactics. it's there and you will definitely get it if you break the prison rule. but it's very rarely used and abused (well because the rule it self is very strict even to the prison staff). i think there is only like 10 case recorded of wrongfully detention room abuse since 2005 the last time i read in japan (3 of them resulted in death tho, so there is that, all of it resulted in prison guard being charged for manslaughter). of course i am not saying it's a good system, but it's not as abusive as it sound. compare to say US prison system (since they are most well known), you are definitely safer and have better service in japan prison, but you literally devoid of any interaction at all with robotic rules, and for some people, those could be worse than death. Is everyone going to ignore the reflection room bit? That went from 0 to 11 real quick
conscription be like:not training if you dont consent. that's straight up good old fashion torture
Keep in mind that the current ruling party in Japan is directly descended from war criminals and fascists. It's pacifism for the masses not the government. If there's a democratic* country that can challenge America for sheer fucked-upness of their legal system it's Japan.Japanese prison sounds fucking insane.
A beating for talking in detention? Like, how is that not illegal? Especially in extreme pacifist Japan where violence is never the answer?
Gagged, handcuffed and blind folded in a (deliberately) filthy cell? That's torture. Straight up, old-fashioned torture. I cannot believe that the japanese constitution doesn't forbid torture.
