I kind of wanted a resolution where it wasn't founded upon him being expected to make his dream revolve around hers for theoretically decades in order to both stay beside her and let her pursue her dream... as if simply being in the same industry is enough to guarantee that they will spend more time together. But I feel like I'm not supposed to think about that, and I'm just supposed to treat this as a happy lighthearted resolution.

By the way, to a few other commenters, I think the idea is that he's quitting university in order to work at the same time as her. (Or maybe I read the chapter wrong, and the idea is that he's going to make up for the time lost from not going to university together by adding time where they work together.)
