seriously, it's not true. the fantastic beasts trilogy is popular there (secrets of dumbledore released the same month as this manga btw). and many manga still reference harry potter.

japan also has attractions like The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter (osaka), and The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros (nerima,tokyo)

it's definitely less popular than 10+ years ago though, so maybe mangaka chose a weird person/small group to ask or something
