While it's cruel to judge or blame mother even though she had done nothing wrong and the baby was still born sick, it's completely other story in case of a woman, who's over 30 y/o and is working in dangerous environment.
It is true, that giving birth in older age is associated with higher risk of giving birth to a child with certain genetic conditions, i.e. Down syndrome.
It is true, that working as radiology technician is associated with being exposed to higher doses of radiation, which is dangerous to fetus, that's still developing, with possibility of all kind of gene mutation.
It is true, that disabled and genetically ill children require much more care and financial resources, and their quality of life is often incomparably worse than that of healthy children - provided that such a child survives these few years to be able to compare anything.
I won't even mention the emotional burden for the entire family.
So, are they harsh toward her and unfair, not telling all of that in her face? Yeah.
But are they right? Well, yeah...

So, while radiation exposure does pose potential risks to developing fetuses, there’s really not much evidence I can find that suggests radiology technicians and radiologists have a statistically significant increased risk for birth defects and/or pregnancy complications. There are already precautions in place to lessen the risk of radiation exposure to people in the field and these seem to be pretty sufficient in protecting staff including pregnant workers. While I understand why her in-laws may be concerned, the actual chances that her work would be the cause for a problem with her future child is really unlikely. So, in that sense, they are not right.

The STRENGTH of old age, they speak wisdom, they don't care about what others say about then.

AKA being more interested in yapping about their family than actually caring about them since ego tends to get bigger with age.
They would likely be more comfortable with her drinking because radiation = scary word, alcohol = fun time.

Well the solution to that is usually giving them less hours especially in the first 3 month

plus we know this hospital is old that's how they got doors not up to standards in the west in the first place doing a bit of google hospitals that are 20+ years old should double check their radiation shielding as the standards before isn't the same as today knowing as some hospitals that old ether doesn't have one or have minimal shielding just to be accepted knowing they haven't updated the doors makes me question if they updated their shielding but I doubt the author will point that out lol

They aren't really right, they just assumed it's risk because of the work with radiation, they probably didn't even made a proper research and want the wife to quit her job and be a house wife
