I guess it depends on the buying power of the currency. A weak yen and a strong dollar make it seem very unattractive to us, but money's always relative and if it makes her go all googly then it's probably something meaningful.1 mil yen monthly salary seems a bit low for fighting aliens.
She's being taken advantage of. The salary is really shitty and borderline exploitation. Million yen is only around $7000. Not much considering that you're going to be fighting superpowered aliens and you're an unique asset they can't replicate. Can I have that contract? I got debts too.
In our f-ed up world this is supposedly double the amount Russian contract soldiers get. Those that actually see combat on the front lines even. And it seems that there are many takers. The contract has no period end date nor defined working hours. If those are not defined on paper while writing the contract, this is a major red flag.
Also the absolutely dehumanizing "two days off for every two weeks."
It is, but she is broke, young, desperate, and only finished till middle school, so she wont know any better, and the idea of using her power to haggle a better contract is nowhere near in her mind, despite showing that she can out power them1 mil yen monthly salary seems a bit low for fighting aliens.
TL, Typesetters, RD, QC envy that contract2 days off every 2 weeks tho
Again, she's getting as much money as a General. I'd say that's awesome. Could she get even more if she bargained for it? Probably. But the pay is already better than most of the world's militaries (which are high risk by definition) and far above Japanese standard. Again I used the average (not median) salary in FINANCE as a reference, in other words she's already getting to times more than people who are already well-off in Japan.@Knoloa Risking your life with a one-of-a-kind skill for under six USD figures will never be even remotely close to a good deal (and it's still well under that with the allowances). It's only double the avg Tokyo salary because the avg Tokyo job is extremely exploitative. It's not 2 days off per week, it's 2 days per 2 weeks, which is almost unheard of, and the vacation is ambiguous. If you get a super power and don't demand an executive TC, you're out of your mind.
You can frankly cruise your way to a position better than this in most first world countries without any danger involved. Most people just don't do any career planning. Talk to the avg dev/product lead, they have these positions and they put zero effort in.
