What's the one single manga chapter with the most Mangadex comments? Is there even anyway to prove it that it's the chapter with the most comments? Was thinking something along the lines of Big 3 but they're so old that it's already read so nobody read it on Mangadex (and the English scans aren't even here)
Anyone got any idea?

though it was only 1.4k comments.
You meant, only top 3 on MangaDex, no big deal.

Anyway, if you want to look at even bigger numbers than what Hicleric sent, you might want to check out the series discussions replies number, here.

You can also filter on view count for a substantively different list.
Now that you said that, it's kinda impressive how all the most viewed comment sections are all very, very recent, considering how old MD is. I'm shook!

There're literally 2 from 2023 and one from 2021 in the first page, the rest are all from this year (and still pretty recent!).

Edit: that was just the date indicating when the last comment was posted on them, not when the chapters were posted...
There're actually only two chapter dating from 2024, then it jumps to 2021 already :aquadrink:

And those two chapters are from sonobisque and have the same number of replies as views (only +1 view each time)...
And they're actually from the same chapter but done by two different groups :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Beat me to the punch there boss :chad:

It's interesting how there's some correlation between series and chapters with most comments, but it's quite far from 1:1. My personal, completely unsupported theory is that folks use the series comments more often to complain than celebrate, hence the overrepresentation of dumpster fires bad harem manga.

I have been trying to execute a search for all threads newer than 1-1-23 (sorted by # of comments) for the sake of finding the most popular "new MangaDex" thread, but the results are troublingly incomplete. Like, I know Imasara has been quite active, but it's not the only one with 400+ in recent memory (Bisque Doll 107 for sure, and probably some others).

Yeah, it's missing some sections with more comments but there are also some entries missing inbetween the results it's giving, quite weird.
I wouldn't know how to search like you're doing (it shouldn't be that hard but I still don't), so I can't help you with that :)

I have never experimented with the forum search as much as I have today :02:

Fun feature I just stumbled on, if you click on the search term at the top of the linked page (just after the word "query:") you can pull up the advanced search with the same parameters I used. And wowee, I don't know anything about search engine design but it's crazy to me that using a different catchall (say, "Ch." instead of the "*" I used above) would generate a completely different, also incomplete return.

I tried adding a minimum number of comments too, but that only narrowed down the final number of results, not the accuracy (respectively 0 and 1 returns for 400 min comments). This makes me think the search is pulling down a list of results from the keyword search first and maxing out before generating the complete dataset, then applying the selected date/comments filters, and finally truncating down to the first two hundred (as applicable) returns to display. I'd put money on this being a "Xenforo issue" :win:
