Japanese traditional steel for sword-forging is nowhere near the quality of equivalent western steel, hence the need to fold the steel to remove impurities (that's why filthy weeb trashes usually shout "my sword is folded one million times!"). Hijikata was a historical figure during the Meiji era when Japan was modernising, so the only way for a Japanese sword to withstand that monstrous impact from Sabnock's great sword is that either it is a modern sword made with technology and advanced metallurgy, or it is imbued with magic, or all of the above.

Eh, I'll read it, but I wouldn't want Hijikata as my own subordinate. People who make a big show out of how unreliable they are are usually unreliable.

Orcs - pig man, kobolds - catman. Why orc are pigs in japan? Sauron was pig master? or what.

This is like an off-brand Dungeon Defense. It's clearly based heavily off of it. Right down to being the weakest of the Demon Lords. Though, the characters in Dungeon Defense are far more interesting and complex. Dantalian is an infinitely more charming character than this guy whose name I can't even bother to remember. Same with this useless maid, she has nothing on Lapis from DD.

I'd recommend anyone who is thinking on checking out this "realist" manga to check out the original, "Dungeon Defense"; that this one tries to mimic.

Aside from the blurb and the first chapter, I'm not really seeing "realist" in here much. It's just a dude that's pretty decent strategist.

@JustNatsuki
is there a dungeon defense manga?
Nope. No manga/manhwa. You'll just have to read the novel. Unless you HATE reading anything not in a speech bubble, you'll enjoy it WAY more than this manga.

@AMetroid I enjoyed (and still enjoy) Arifureta's LN a lot but I hated (and still hate) Nonbiri Nouka's entire schtick. 90% of Nonbiri's manga is just narration and it's boring as heck.

I usually like isekai unless it has criminally bad writing. And this one was not a exception until now. Hell, I even kinda liked the whole Hijikata thing. It reminded me of FGO.

But I have the firm belief that any work that features Jeanne d'Arc should hold the character to certain standards. At the very least degrading her to a haremette is a no-no. And as tolerable as this has been for isekai standards, I don't trust the author enough to pull it off.

I initially thought this was just a bad adaptation of Dungeon Defense. So far it's rather "meh". It could get better, but I just don't see it making it.

meh/10
Read Dungeon Defense instead.

IDK why you'd think a Japanese author is copying a Korean author when there are multiple examples of this type of plot published in Japan before Dungeon Defense ever was.

As others have said this looks heavily, "inspired", by Dungeon Defense. So far it's pretty average, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Unfortunately nothing really stands out.

Average read.

Odd pacing. Flashback, flash forward and recap all jumbled up in a mess with no reasoning.
Cringe. Using the word realist as much as a 14-year-old uses the word deep. The dudes just a reckless idiot.
All in all headache-inducing...

Man,
Japan nor anyone does Jeanne right. Should've been more tomboyish since the original was tomboyish .
