About a word choice: Rather than "spare money" I'd think that "petty cash" or possibly "spare change" would convey the meaning better.

@MoodyUsername I thought the illogical thing was that he still risked his life, even when it no longer saved them (because they were not there). Her evaluation of him said that he should retreat. So she's upset that she's overlooking something in his decision making process (meaning she can't steer him as well as she wants to).
