I wonder if Amachi remembers fighting him, and if there’s anything deeper that happened (Amachi won but quit, or lost then quit, or smth like that)

Man, come to think about it. Seeing how Banryu seems to be mostly composed of pure strikers. They really did Aoba dirty by matching him up against possibly the only guy in the whole division with decent ground game for his debut fight.

I am more surprised Aoba did not get another title shot given his 8 (now 9) fight win streak. His recent Banryu opponents seem to have much worse records. It might be coz the crowd does not like him, but I don't get it. Aoba's fights are prertty enetrtatining, he is a finisher not a "crotch sniffer".

Well, he is certainly not a "crotch sniffer" but he does have a "If it's not in the rules it's fair game" kind of mentality so I wouldn't be surprised if he did some rather questionable stuff in the fights we haven't seen which rubbed people the wrong way.
Also, it's surprising the amount of people who hates seeing takedowns and grapling because it's takes away the emotion of a slugfest. To the point you start to wonder why aren't they watching muay thai or kickboxing instead.

Yeah, once he gets a Striking together, he’ll be around 50% as entertaining as Charles Oliveira

But for now. The promoters are probably scrambling to make sure an entertaining pure striker becomes the next champion.

I actually think he may win the next fight with the veteran guy by KO/TKO (we haven't seen these kicks for a while). He will def win coz every time the coach says Aoba's chances are slim, he pulls a miracle. I also speculate that in the anticipated fight with Kenshin (if it happens), they might surprise each other: Aoba may give Kenshin problems with striking, and Kenshin would have suprisingly good grappling (secret training sessions with some Gracies lol)

Yeah, while I don’t think it’ll be an easy match. I really wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up knocking Yamamoto out Thanks to old age wearing down on your durability and the help of Amachi. Plus 2 years is debatably more than enough time to properly learn how to safely fire Crescent kick without busting your toes imo

I just can’t shake this lingering feeling that victory is going to have a Twist or caveat. Like the kid obviously manages to win but gets robbed on the scorecards(cuz the promoter hates him), gets injured, or most wild case scenario? Aoba loses, but does so well compared to “remember the decision” Nejima that the promoters from his current organization have no choice, but to give them a title-shot/rematch. Which could then lead to Boost POTENTIALLY doing their own take on TUF but with champions from other outside organizations
