I have no idea what the priest is thinking about. Does he just want Red to focus on murdering Blue and his men?

thats exactly it, Red would lose his edge if he knew about Scarlett as youve seen in the last two chapters, he needs to focus if he wants to survive against Blues men

it seems pretty likely that Gray (the priest) has some kind of ulterior motives for scarlett. We now know that gray actually works for the u.s government, under the direct orders of the president no less. We can reasonably be certain that part of his orders are to see to it that the embarrassment of the blue platoon permanently dealt with, which explains why he tracked down Red and sent him on the warpath, but that doesn't explain why he also tracked down Scarlett and has been guarding her for most of her life. What's more he deliberately let her find out she was a Wisa, but for some reason doesn't actually want her to ever meet red. It can't just be about Red losing his edge again, letting Scarlett meet Sliver-ring would be completely counterproductive if that was the case. My guess is the Wisa tribe has some kind of important geopolitical value for the government. Again I'm just spitballing here, but my guess right now is Gray has orders to kill Red once every witness to the u.s involvement in the Wisa massacre and subsequent cover up has been eliminated. Thus making Scarlett the sole heir of the Wisa and thus a Wisa chieftain who has conveniently (for the government) both grew up in white society and implicitly trusts her "uncle" Gray.

I mean... It definetly feels like a clean up, but I think your prediction is still too nice. Gray was probably called on to eliminate all evidence, and I mean all. Having a wisa survivor wipe out the last of the platoon? Convenient. Having that survivor die afterwards as a result of his wounds during his storm of revenge? Convenient. A single last surviving girl? Well... That's a problem. I'm pretty sure Gray is there on "Wipe them out of history" duty, and that means every single one that has any relation to the event. His plan for scarlet might've just been hoping that the obvious would happen to the young girl travelling the wild west alone and that he wouldn't have to be actively responsible for it.
