That weapon is only ridiculous in settings without weird powers. This setting has weird powers. No problems here.

A needlessly cumbersome weapon is always ridiculous, barring changed physics. If only strength and body toughness to withstand the swinging changed, a lighter and better proportioned one would still be vastly superior. But if there are weird physics, some very specific magical bullshittery or some esoteric need for it, it can be rationalized. Still hard to do so competently, considering all the setting design it needs.
