I remember reading somewhere that those are invasive species because someone who was keeping them as pets released them to wild. I don't if it was intentional or it was an accident.

both intentional and hurricane damaging one of the enclosures or whatever and they pretty much escaped out into the wild. Similar to our iguana infestation too
