The fact that date rental is even a thing makes me want to cry and puke at the same time.
I want to cry because of how pathetically desperate some members of my gender are, and because it reminds me of myself as an awkward, greasy teen.
However, I want to vomit when I think that what is essentially underage prostitution without the sex is viewed as a normal, acceptable thing that hurts nobody. I'd suggest that normalisation of such a thing causes troubling social dynamics to develop.
The boys will go to great lengths to get money for the girl with the desperate hope that he'll be able to get a whiff of her panties or that she'll like him normally. This includes stealing.
Girls, on the other hand, will suffer immensely in the long term. As teens, they'll develop harmful ideas such as:
Boys are subhuman, living pocket money dispensers. I don't need to study hard because a man will pay for everything when I get married.
In addition to thoughts like those, an attitude of entitlement will likely develop which will make life difficult later if she gets divorced or her husband dies. She gives up her independence by becoming reliant on easily acquiring men's money rather than working hard for a living. By the time her prostitution/modelling career dries up and/or her marriage fails, she will no longer have her youthful good looks to provide an easy living, but because she neglected other skill-building activities she isn't prepared to properly participate in the workforce.
Frankly, I wouldn't be motivated to work either if I could get 10 times as much for masturbating in front of a camera a few times a week.
The problem isn't that these jobs exist. That's just the free market at work. The problem is that by celebrating and even by simply not stigmatizing the sex work industry, we (society) cause girls to participate more readily without knowing about the drawbacks.
The attitude of accepting and celebrating prostitution, sugar babies, escorts etc. was ironically much more logical in our past, more patriarchal society. Lower female workforce participation and men's position as breadwinner created a balanced system where most men and women had families together, the men provided the resources, the women made efficient use of the resources. For those women who were gifted with great looks, there was a demand for pornography, prostitution, escorting etc. In those times, a schoolgirl who went on dates for money would still be the same, but society would be set up so that she could live that way. She'd go on dates for money, get married when she was old enough, and if her husband died before her, she'd get his pension to live on.
If you read all the way then thank you. Please let me know what you think or if you think I missed anything.
