Hey, does anyone have a leftover spine? It seems this manga's protagonist has lost his.

The MC needs to make a choice really. She is in love with him hence why shes saying shes quitting the rental business . She wants him to say well if your not a rental can we make it official. Shes saying im willing to drop the rental business to be with one guy and thats you.

But if shes doing acting as a career then hes going to be out of her touch as the better recognition she gets the higher she will climb. And hes too busy working as a waiter along side a girl who will have the same social status as him and IS in love with him OR get back with his ex who does seem fine however she does seem to have a shady side.

I just dont get how far your willing to go for a rental as your burning x2 as much money. I could never date a rental but on the other hand im not from Japan.

I see people bashing the MC. Guess they've never been nervous or in love. Shame they don't understand or can't connect with the MC. He's a little slow, granted, but I'm sure he'll get there soon. Just needs a small push.

Man, people are trashing the MC but in my opinion he is good.
He is stupid, yes, but he is very sincere. I also love how Mizuhara made him a better man day by day. This stupid MC doesn't deserve the harem (yet) but he definitely deserves Mizuhara's affection after all he has done to her.

"Sincere"

Yeah I guess that's
why he lied to his grandmother, won't definitively tell Ruka to stop, lied to his friends, used the quiet forgettable girl, and won't tell the girl he likes how he feels.

Yeah, I don't like this MC either.
Instead of being honest with his grandmother he rents a girlfriend. Instead of clearly breaking up with Ruka because he doesn't like her that way he lets her do what she wants. I don't know why he doesn't want to tell Mizuhara how he feels but really he should try. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I agree, I like the MC too. Yeah, he's cringy and a friggin' idiot, but at least he recognizes that himself and chastises himself for it too. He means well and has a good heart, but he's a coward. At least he accepts that he's a coward. How many MCs do that? Last I checked, they typically don't recognize it or make excuses for it to justify it. He doesn't.

I'm here for the girl in this series good art, good clothes set, candy for eyes, various background for fun story.
MC is meh. I would prefer it a bit smarter or a flaw that can be forgiven.

@darara I can understand that, but I also don't like it.

@Kamelpov I feel the same way. While I don't like the MC, I continue to read the series for other things, especially the art.

Story progression is slow.

Which can be good, but not when it’s made like this.

Uh oh! Girl has determined face at the end of the last chapter?! What is the meaning of her determination?!? What happen next?!?!

Lo and behold, nothing does. It’s just the same exact bait and switch used every four or five chapters for nothing. There’s no character development. None. I believed for a moment that the MC was slowly changing, but then it’s like he reverts to his useless state from chapter 1.

I used to defend this rubbish, but it’s just the same nonsensical ecchi seinen formula that’s ruined many a good premise. Pretty girls and panty shots aren’t enough to keep my interest. I cannot stand to keep reading this before I lose my remaining brain cells.

Even the art isn’t enough to save this from its own trashy writing. This is why I hate most manga where the mangaka both draws and writes the story. Some talented artists just have no business writing, very few manage to master both.

@TwilightFaze Recognizing your own flaws is only the first step. And he has been stuck in that first step for god knows how long. If there's no will to change then any self reflection is worthless.
The problem with Kazuya is that despite everything he says about Chizuru and whatnot, at the end of the day he's still the same spineless wimp as when the manga started.
Changes take time, but not that much time.

@Isekaijin: By manga standards, sure, I totally see where you're coming from. But consider this: [/spoiler]He's always "one step forward, one step back" with Mizuhara, but even he recognized at one point he needed to stop and pursued Ruka at her insistence (albeit as a trial since Ruka is also a Rental and he's not sure of his feelings towards her). However he finally decided to pursue Mizuhara more seriously and be supportive of her goals and even "undo" his high school failures. It's having an effect if Mizuhara's reactions are any indication. Gotta remember that girl is big on the tsun and fake on the dere thanks to her actress goals.
When you consider that, it's not just self-reflections, he's making active progress, just not as fast as people would like. (Humans are not patient by nature. Not really.)

If that's not enough, then ignore that. Let's consider the the time instead. Each situation lasts for several chapters (longer than your typical manga's pattern) and some ever overlap each other making it feel longer. Probably 5 or 6 months has passed. Not a year (not by a long shot!). For an aggressive guy (I don't subscribe to the whole "alpha" "beta" bullcrap. That's middle school frat boy ego-stroking nonsense) brimming with confidence and pursuing a girl and ignoring Ruka or other girls after him, yeah, this is unacceptably long. But most guys like this are typically "hit it and quit it" too (keyword is MOST, not ALL). Passive guys are more failure prone and prefer taking a more calculated and "safe" approach. The less risk, the better, because they are done being hurt (evidenced by our MC here). To take 5-6 months getting to know the girl and dating her, this is actually normal. The only real argument is that they're not really "dating" due to the whole Rental thing (One could argue they are due to Mizuhara's tsun-nature and using it as a pre-tense, but another can say they aren't because she's been a professional about it and not real girlfriend. Readers could argue this point forever!).

Anyway, just saying there's more to it than his "spineless" nature. Not saying you're wrong, because you're not (it was very well put, by the way!). Anyway, just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.
