The difference is that when automation takes over manual tasks, it's because the result is better. The worldbuilding is basically saying we forgot how to fight, because instead of using skilled swordsmanship, we've switched to guns and missiles that don't require much skill to use, and so we've someone regressed.

@TUSF : no, automation wins because it is cheaper and easier. People are fundamentally lazy after all, and in general will settle for lesser results that takes significantly less effort and cost.

The regalia is akin to a calculator, something so you do not need to learn how to do math since it will do it for you, which is a decent portion of the reason math skills have declined so much.

@sjmcc13 Except that's not true. We can automate a lot of things, but they tend to be pretty shit and unreliable, so we stick with the manual mode until the automation side can catch up. Calculators have been around in one way or another for eons; now they're just digital and faster, but real mathematical knowledge is still required to understand what the calculator is actually doing. We use them to augment our use of mathematics, not outright replace them. The average math literacy is actually astronomically higher today than in any earlier point in history.

Cheaper and easier only really pans out if we're talking a consumerist industry. Consumers are willing to accept lower quality for lower price, but medicine and health are not consumer markets.

Bass is fighting a duel with regalia against someone he thinks is a magicless uneducated bumpkin who's unarmed and complains about it not being fair when he loses? Poor Bass, not only does he lose despite all his seemingly advantages but gets his family jewels kneed so hard he rolls several yards away. Wonder if his voice is permanently a few octaves higher now? That angry aura definitely shows Lilith is the daughter of the last Demon Lord, but how come no one caught her calling her supposed brother Abel master? Also, why is Abel so short on time? Granted magic knowledge and ability has severely plummeted but it's not like there's rumors of the Demon Lord leading an army to their doorstep in the next few days or signs of a calamity appearing.
