@megagen "Better have no ally than to have a fool as ally" 2 reasons why he doesn't bond with his brother: his brother is too naive and it can backlash. Second: he knows that his brother envied him and that's why his brother suppressed him in his previous life.

If he want an ally, it will be somebody who can do evil and he must have something to pressure this character.

The rest are at best pawn, not worth being cultivated. His brother has no standing, believe in Good and the MC has nothing to effectively pressure him -> bad ally by the standards of the MC.

He would prefer to make a temporary alliance with a greedy person if they can profit from each other. A greedy doesn't care about morals, and as long as there is profit for both, the alliance works.

His brother is a worthless piece of shit that fails a 100 percent of the time whenever he's about to do something important so he's not worth spending time on.

@Ovnidemon He clearly states in chapter 2 that his brother is the true genius and given fangzhen timid disposition and his mistreatment in the family, he can be made to be entirely dependent on him as such an easy pawn to use. Looking for greedy people who can easily betray you or an individual you can raise from early on to be entirely dependent on you, who also can be formidable. His decisions just seem so shortsighted and no actual planning except I am evil, I will be bad but shallow in its insidiousness.

Zheng is a filthy moralfag that cries bloody tears for people that used and abused him his whole life, his whole motivation in life is literally "I'm gonna show you, bro!" while his brother is busy being a 6-meter tall, 8-armed, quad-winged asura zombie.

@megagen the main problem is that he is too naive and believe in good. The MC will inevitably do bad things and his brother will find it. Once that happen, the MC will not be able to control him anymore. If you add to that the envy the brother felt before the test, he becomes a pretty bad ally for the MC.

As for cultivating: you cultivate an ally or a pawn that you can control. The brother will never be an ally and the MC has nothing to control him. Just dependency or fanaticism doesn't make a controllable pawn. At nest, it make short-lived pawn, meant to be killed quickly. At worst, a chaos factor that can backstab you. As for greedy person, for temporary alliance, they generally are the best ally if they can both profit. If it's a one-time or long-time alliance, sure, it may not be the case. But as long as the benefit surpass what he can get by betraying, he will not betray.

@Ovnidemon @megagen hey guys my thoughts as well! The protagonist probably has no intention of having any allies just like his old life as he was on deaths door he had no one next to him neither does he talk about anyone he ever trusted or relied on besides himself. Time will tell though only 7 chapters so far.

@megagen The protagonist simply doesn't need to "control" his brother. You invest too much importance and trust in relationships. The tradeoff between "nurturing" his brother and its benefits isn't necessarily to one's interest.

His brother's a genius? Partially true. Compelling in the case of the clan but not so in the case of the grander reality of the five continents. There isnt any assurity that his brother actions would be in his interest, especially since the latter is constantly vitiated by his aunt and uncle.

Again providing him with incentives? One as the statement itself suggests it requires it requires investment. Two, it may be counter acted about by the mc's future ("evil") acts as the guy's brother is 'magnanimous'.
Three, A powerful "ally" isn't necessarily to one's interest as mind you, at the moment the guy simply doesn't have any direct threats and there is little reason to believe there would likely be an undesirable development which would require his brother's assistance and would warrant the investment, change in plans (evil to not evil), winning him over from his uncle and aunt, being the dominant of the two, risking revealing and sharing secrets and benefits of his knowledge, risking the possibility that his brother (in a change of heart or not) doesn't go against his interest deliberately or not, more importantly the innate ideological differences need to be made up for which isn't particularly convenient or easy.
Delineation of a domineering (contemptful/condescending) persona towards his brother restricts the latter's potential to an extent by putting his psyche off and hence aids the protagonist's consequent plans.

On a whole, your argument is impulsive, apprehensive, crude and unsubstantiated.
Well, have a good day

@greedyone I read (past tense) a bit of the novel
He will get an "ally", but one that combines the qualities that I cited, he has something to control him, he is also somebody who can do evil, and they profit from each. But there is no trust, just a game of pulling and pushing (at least, where I was)
Also, we learnt that he had a school in the past (though, I don't know much about that), so he is neither to be alone or in a group, he just chooses the most convenient thing at the moment (though, he dislikes being under somebody)

Ow shit, this got an adaptation.
This, dear reader is by far the best novel I've ever read (and I read a lot). If you read this, you're going to change your vision of the world, this is how well written it is.
This is true evilness, Fang Yuan has his goal, and he's going to do anything possible to achieve it, no matter how much he's scorned at, no matter of much he'll have to dirty his hands.
I know that there's going to be much dumb social justice warrior slandering this chef-d'oeuvre. But I can see that there's many readers of the novel, so fellow demonic reader, Let's defend our stronghold from those Fang Zheng~
