It's not that succubi can't be rapists, it's that being a succubus doesn't make you a rapist. It's not because of her race, but because she personally sucks.
I mean, MC goes on and on about diversity, etiquette, respect, he overthinks these things a lot, tries his best, gets quite arrogant about it, and actually seems like the only person who cares this much about it.
Then he gets in trouble, blindsided by his own tolerance in the most stereotypical encounter, which includes the use of an ability succubi shouldn't be using. Makes me wonder how seriously the author is going to tackle the outcome, if at all.

I really don't think this is supposed to be fanservice. Sexually imperilling a lead will always get an eyeroll from me as lazy writing, but... titillating? Not really.
Not sure if it's fan service or not but is an often used trope for a myriad of justifications. Like, you could achieve the same drama without the threat of assault but at least it does speak to the wider powers of succubi as well as referencing a known condition of sleep paralysis

If they don't tackle it at all, I'll be really disappointed. I'm actually really impressed that they're Going There, actually, if this is to address the issue where a lot of people are all "equality, equality" until they have a personal experience that gives them an excuse not to be. Assuming the new girl isn't like "lol jk" the very next panel, I hope the MC has to wrestle with some stuff out loud. Let's not blame him for getting assaulted, though.

I'm also curious if this will be parallel to a discussion about gender, if the idea is that "succubi are to men what men are to women:" they want to have sex with you and can overpower you if you refuse.

Feels like the traditional "succubi eat men" ingredient combined with semi-rivalry between girls at a critical age, but she's from an all-girls school? Is she going to get interrupted or chicken out at the last moment?

Also wondering, what would the succubi in that world think about compliments on their horns, from humans? I'd bring a succubus to the petting zoo and make sure she saw me holding goats by their horns..

The tone of the series up to this point feels entirely too flippant to suddenly shift gears into "the question of consent & ethics in the context of sexual relations with supernatural entities with a sex-centric mythology", but I guess anything is technically possible.

I'd also be impressed if the author went that route, but mostly because this feels way too lighthearted, even with this sudden assault scene, to go into the sort of heavy topic that sexual consent involves, much less when dealing with something like sex demons.

Kinda feels like the author wanted an ecchi scene but Emu is too pure/timid to pull it off, so another character had to be introduced to enact it with the MC. And it couldn't be Emu with some playboy-type, because that would piss off readers who want Emu's purity left intact (blech at writing that out, but it's not my first day reading manga, so).
I hope this is setting up something of real substance, but I'll be over here not-holding my breath.

That's really interesting, because my read was like 180 degrees from that: This series has seemed to me not just socially conscious but about social consciousness so far, using fictional/mythical races as a way to safely talk about real-world issues in the way that sci-fi and fantasy often do.

I'm really not getting ecchi or fanservice from this as much as that it's supposed to be threatening (but not too scary.) Might accidentally hit for people who are, uh, into that sorta thing, but I'm not getting a vibe that it's intentional? The cliffhanger totally reads "they will be immediately interrupted next chapter or she'll reveal to him that she's only trying to make a point or something" but maybe it'll be subverted, who knows?

I can see this going all sorts of directions, including like you said, which is honestly rare. Maybe I'm giving it way too much credit.

As a side note, Emu's mix of confidence in what she wants, pluckiness, and clumsy purity is kinda growing on me. I know that when I write it out like that, it's like "oh you mean every heroine ever?" but there's something about the ratio in her that makes me want to root for her extra.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? IM SO CONFUSED?
I dunno either, but I'm also pretty confident I'm happier that way. Just sayin'.

Then dont read it ffs. If you're gonna complain about fanservice in a manga, a manga website isnt the best place to be at
Considering attempted rape as "fanservice" is pretty disgusting icl

Why tf do authors really like a hot third wheel to go out of their way to try to cuckold the fl despite being their friend, imagine if this was a man i bet it'll cause a more massive uproar
