Forgive the necro. I would assume it's because what he wants is a specifically prepared dish and it doesn't auto translate if they don't have something very similar. Like they could have grits or oatmeal, but not porridge, in their cuisine. I'm sure if he had taken 10 seconds to describe the dish, she probably could've suggested close alternatives.
