Wonder what was the blunder. They can manufacture glass so it can't be that bottle...

This is the one isekai MC whose shoes I wouldn't want to be in.

Poor dude can take a shit without getting tangled in some multi-level scheme.

it's been awhile so i could be wrong, but were they really able to make glass?
wasn't it one of the things that they weren't able to get right even with the help of the videos and were still working on?

if we assume they can thought, just the knowledge that they can is pretty valuable for the same reason that the information why the other kingdom wants the glass for making magic tools.
Knowlage is power after all.
And if nothing else, if just a tiny little ball of glass was that valuable to them, imagine what a bottle would be worth if the shape of the bottle was good enough for tool makeing.

@Kanol However in practice they wont be able to experiment with the bottle, as it requires the same tools as making the glass marbles, furnice-wise. And at the moment not even MC has the tools for that. :)

actually back then we do have glass , it just not as clear as modern now , because back then we have no filter for sand from impurities
in this chapter , it talks about how clear the glass is , and glass are made of sand , and sand has alot of impurities which make it look darker and colour-ish depend on how much impurities and whats between the sand quartz

if you have seen glass with some dark on its side , its because of impurities of the sand

@Maala - Do they not have Iron weapons? If they can forge iron, they should be able to melt glass. If they're using bronze or something... I don't much remember.

being able too and knowing how too are two verry diffrent things.
They could melt the glass for sure if they wanted too, but that would not do them much good if they dont know how to make new glass.
And also makeing a "perfect" sphere is not a easy thing to do without really good tools.

@Serelanordir

you dont happen to know what chapter it was where they talked about making glass?
i sadly don't have time to look over it right now :/

@Goldenzeal - Ch.11. They seem to get some things wrong though, like saying the temperature needed to melt glass being higher than the temperature needed to melt iron.
Making a near perfect sphere's not actually hard if you know your way around a compass. Just make a C cross-section bit, use that to cut a hemispherical jig and rotate the glass across that. But yeah, if they want to make an industry of it they need a good source of sand and some trial and error. I'm more talking about the experimental value of the material in the bottle to the people he gave it to.

Ah yes. I now remember why I got tired of reading the novel. It's fucking exhausting. Don't get me wrong, it's a stellar isekai, but man is it exhausting to read through.

What if I told you that the society you live in is a multi-level scheme but without the brown waifu?

The tricky part is melting the glass without introducing impurities. Modern glassmakers use electric furnaces and gas blowtorch, which burn cleanly: doing the same using wood or coal is extremely hard and require specialized instruments.

Nope, nothing wrong there. Melting point of pure iron is about 1500C. Midieval tech won't get pure iron, so depends on impurities it can easily drop to 1300-1400C.
Melting point of glass (depends on glass type) can be lower but you forgot that they don't have glass yet. To get their first glass they have to melt silica first.
Melting point of silica is about 1700C. Even accounting for impurities it will never drop to 1300C.

@BzzBzz Ah, whoops! Good point, I was still thinking along the lines of "melt the glass bottle" but starting from sand you're right. If they have coal fired crucible furnace it's still doable.

@Acolytus well, I'm pretty sure there are multiple isekais where they take up a ruling position and have to deal with very delicate politics. Any ruling power in whatever era has to deal with delicate politics. But the majority of these isekai series don't execute it well or rather brush over it too much because that's not the main focus.
