Started off strong, and the first thirty chapters are pretty good, but the haremshit keeps getting more and more prevalent. MC only really ever asked for two things: to not be involved in politics, and to have to have to have concubines. The politics thing was obviously never going to last, because otherwise there wouldn't be a story, but I'm really disappointed that the concubine issue is being forced front and centre. If the author had been upfront about about this at the start then I wouldn't have cared, but instead he spent seven volumes doing the exact opposite, with the concubine idea getting immediately shot down every time it's brought up.

I dropped this. I enjoyed the beginning but the whole forced concubines is annoying when the only thing MC really asked for was to have only 1 wife.

Dropped for the random, pointless harem. Wouldn't be as bad had the story started with the harem, rather than explicitly shooting down a harem to then bring one in (I wouldn't read it with a harem either way).

I get why people develop an aversion to harem manga, but not all harem manga are equal.

The big problem with most harem manga is that you wind up with a bunch of girls that all like the MC for no real reason. The MC is oblivious the whole time. It's just unrealistic and overplayed and often takes priority over the story.

This harem isn't like that. The women involved don't have some unrealistic attraction to the MC. He's got a loving relationship with Aura, but they grew into that naturally over the span of years. Outside of that, the women seeking to join his harem have very good reasons for doing so. They're not lovestruck over him. Sure, Lucrezia tries too hard, but she's young and she's got a lot at stake, so her behavior is pretty realistic. More to the point, the potential harem members are there for political reasons tied directly to the main story.

There are plenty of male characters that are integral to the story, unlike the standard harem manga where they're mostly decoration.

Anyway, if the harem tag is your reasoning for not wanting to read this, you should reconsider.
