Is rock music in Japan super niche or something? Because metal has existed for over 40 years now... why are the characters acting like rock is the ultimate form of music?

Um, it's a manga about rock music as a symbol of personal freedom and rebellion, so it's obvious it'll idealize rock music. But getting back to your question, kawaii metal and all-female rock bands are currently at a peak in popularity in the country. One of them even recorded the music for the manga adaptation.

Her little sister looking bewildered and mildly scandalized over being effectively adopted by the rest of the band members will always make me laugh.

Thanks for the TL as always
It was definitely fun to see them fawning over her in the animated adaptation.

This person has no idea what rock actually is,what their subdivisions are, probably doesn't even listen to enough of it,and has not noticed how the insurance cartels have pushed post 2000s' stale pop-music that is majority about sex as the main radio song(thats' why they all suck),don't worry,we can cure that.

Obviously because it is 😉
Always will be,followed closely by jazz of all eras,60s' pop,70s' disco,80s' techno, and some really good 90s' bands.

Even with the detrimental results the cartels did.

Japan has a lot of great music, but that's not what we're talking about, hehe. Either way, Japan currently has more mainstream rock music than the West. Maybe except Finland, where even pop music sounds like hard rock.

The West has plenty,it's just what's played on the radio is the crap that melts kiddos' brains just as much as TikToks do.

Europe is definitely a staple for metal rock, the UK and US helped to develop punk rock and pop rock, the US itself is how jazz rock and rap rock came to be.

There's also the smaller subsets, most of them one form of metal rock or another, all of which is better then the crap they try to force feed us on the radio.

The only exceptions are OPs,EDs,and insert music/songs for animated series, games, and any good bands that actually provide good results, like Starset and Sabaton,to name a few.

Do you live in a European country? I live in Russia and here hip-hop and zoomer electronic music takes up 90% of the mainstream.

Nah,mate,SEA.

Like most, the radios are six parts post 2000s' pop,hip hop, rap, those Halmark esque bull, with one part mix and one part business channel that actually plays good older music during the weekends.

Personally, though,is me thumbdrive of various older goodies and fewer of anything post 2000s.

Hip-hop has always been popular for as long as I can remember, but I still remember the moment when I suddenly discovered in the 00s that it had literally become one of the main forms of mainstream music. Although when I first started getting seriously interested in music, there was alternative metal and metalcore everywhere.

Yup,and it's 'cause of that cartel.

Thank goodness its' effects are now greatly reduced due to how easy it is to actually find better stuff.
