Anyhow, Fine is fine AF. The dress at the end IMHO givs her too much of a boob job, but that 'casual' date outfit? Just marry her already MC.

I think that the torturer and the one rescuing them are one and the same. The torturer intented for her to be mindbroken so that the other guys become enraged, so that he will instantly gain their trust once an escape plan is told to them. And the torturer is planning all this so that they will hunt MC.

While it is obvious that the torturer is the one currently rescuing them, imo mindbreaking her was more of a side effect. He probably didn't believe in the past life's memories and kept torturing her. He likely just needed the access to the treasury. He is also most likely connected with the demon summoners MC thought about earlier, and it could be a demon that confirmed that the past life's memories could be a thing. Anyway, I suspect their goal is to empty the treasury of the powerful artifacts in order to weaken their country before invading.

I think I gotta pick up the novel one of these days, there definitely seems to be a lot more to this story, than the current manga allows.

I know the tools are "shown". However, the issue is we don't have any idea of what the torturer did nor why the initial main villian got mind broken so badly. It feels underwhelming because the story tries to suggest a grimdark level of pain and suffering but (since this story is rather light-hearted) the tone can't allow for that to be depicted.

Eh, not the most elaborate description of torture I've read, so yeah it's a little underwhelming when it's the dollorstore discount scene similar to half a dozen blockbuster movies from the 90s and 00s.

This form of torture is also not very reliable. After a while, people stop telling what they know, and start saying whatever it is they think you want to hear to make the pain stop.

Even if they are using mind altering drugs and or the so called truth serums, you need a competent inquisitor or interrogator to ask the questions get actionable information. I mean sure just about anyone can ask "tell me about [insert subject here]", but the subject won't always remember, will try to mislead, or outright refuse.

So yeah, a one or two page scene with blurred out implements and halfassed description is kinda underwhelming.
