I suppose the bastiht was used as an alternate (or probably the true pronunciation) for the name of the Egyptian deity of protection/good health. In the 'english' designation, the said deity is 'Bastet' and yes, it is imaged as a cat-like deity (that is why it is also cat-like in this manga).
And yes, I also read it as batshit at first xD
