Now this is tense. I don't believe her ability is strong enough to function like true plot armor, and Ray or even Al might get killed if the writer is brave enough to write that into the narrative (more than just shock value, these events can also serve as an impetus for character growth if written well).
Before she could even think of a plan, once again Ray charged in; forcing his comrades to rally around him and attack even though the odds are stacked against them. Then again, the concept of awakening was explained and this seems to be the perfect opportunity to have that loaded Chekhov's gun fire.
