Did they really managed to escape with zero deaths using her explosive magic stone plan to buy them some time, or did those laughing bastards deliberately let them go so they can toy with their prey?
Having their asses handed to them by a small scouting force of 5 reptilian demons really underscores the fact that they're a force of greenhorns who've barely started to fight as a unit. But managing to not get massacred despite that is impressive by itself. It could have gotten a lot worse.
Divide and conquer. She knows the enemy is unstoppable as a full group of 5 so she has to get them to break off into smaller groups to give her men a better chance. Her plan is not without risk and if they fail to coordinate, their force is exposed to "defeat in detail" with each small unit getting destroyed one by one. Coordination is crucial and that is why she tells them to act on her signal.
She used her brain for this which is admirable, but unfortunately the enemy commander is also a clever bastard and managed to outmaneuver her plan in one place: a daring direct attack on her, the commander, using a climbing ability that she did not take into account.
