I certainly had no respect for authority since very young. They mostly didn't hassle me 'cause I got good grades, but when they did I didn't react that well. But frankly I think to this day that respect for authority is a stupid idea. People in authority are no better than anyone else; the only possible excuse for authority existing is if it's somehow useful to the people under it, and one of the primary requirements for a person in authority not to be actively despised is, not abusing that authority to make people's lives worse.

I had this one English teacher that was Eric Cartman levels of "respect my authoritah." Instant loss of any current respect and prevention of any future respect. The thing a lot of those people are actually asking for is courtesy anyway. It's like... there's a difference between not showing someone outright disrespect and actually respecting them, you know what I mean?

Respect goes both ways. If you demand respect while you yourself are disrespectful towards the ones you demand respect for, you won't get that respect you want. Instead, people will think and say this to you: "who the f*ck do you think you are? You're nothing but a speck of cosmic dust just like me and yet you dare to think that you deserve more respect while disrespecting me? What the f*ck were your parents teaching you at home?"

And yes, I was saying that to an arrogant teacher back then in highschool... Which got me suspended for 10 days and the teacher fired due to my classmates and the parents lobbying the headmaster. I also heard that his teacher's license was revoked not too long after that since apparently he did something real bad.
