I love how formal Kuro talks lol, it's not Unintelligible Language like I initially thought it could be but it still very much reads like someone from a different background... real interesting that he's had his own struggles with growth spurt stuff, I'm sure he'll have some fun convos with Ruri before this trip's over with

I think it also has to do with how Japanese associates politeness with subordination.
Kuro is REALLY sorry about all the trouble he causes, and so, he's super polite to everyone he affects.
It's a way of showing meekness and that you are socially "lower" than the person you're addressing.
At the same time, you're putting the other person "above" you as a sign of respect. :pepehmm:

I think there's another aspect; his character's written so meek, polite, and formal to contrast his spurt state, showing that a dragon CAN'T be chill during a spurt. In which case, the previous battle wasn't a shift to standard shounen battle manga fare, but served a story purpose.

Of course, as soon as they announce a global (or beyond) dragon battle tournament (a Tenka'ichi Ryuudoukai?), I'll give up and admit the series has jumped the battle-manga shark. :p

That was an awesome chapter and the long talk they had going to the shrine was great. The end panel was so cool. Thanks for the chapter and translation

So is Ruri more coherent during a spurt because of her human half, and thus capable of at least resisting her urge to destroy everything during a spurt? She definitely still shoots power everywhere, but she didn't go ballistic like Kuro did.

She hasn't been suppressing it for...uhm, what was it, ten years? Ah, twelve years...like Kuro has. Even then, she still wanted to throw herself into this fight, despite how insane a thing to do it was. But her human side could well become a factor at some point, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
