Would love if one day, an author would kill off their protag that we've been following for so long, just to mess with all of our expectations.

I think I saw one maybe two story like that but they made the switch at the end of the first chapter or something like that
What is needed is a whole full volume, you follow them a whole volume where it's a legit story and then BOOM, they die, the power of friendship failing them, hard.
More than a volume, would just kill the interest, and you have to feel that something is wrong the whole time
