First: typo on page 14, "stanger and stanger"

Man, I have no idea where it's going, and I like that about it. Mister will probably die by the end, since there's not much of a legal place for him in the world. He could keep forging identities, but he'll get caught eventually.

I predict Sachi will live, but won't go with the detective until Mister dies.

And I really hope her crapsack parents are locked up with no keys.

As always, thank you for the translation! It's one of my favorite non-fluff mangas right now.

I'm not criticizing the logic or realism here. I'm criticizing the author's creativity. This story got me hook with its seemingly different setting and its two unique main characters but down the line, it slowly became another cookie-cutter shounen psychological thriller story. For me personally, the story became less and less memorable as it goes on.

@hikufalafel It's dangerous to expect too much from manga. After all the myriad manga I've read (and dropped), in the vast majority of cases it goes exactly like you said: The initial setting can be really good and interesting, but then after a while the creativity just disappears somewhere. At least many of the reasons for that phenomenon were explained by Bakuman. I don't really hold my expectations super high and I can somewhat adjust them, so in the case of this series I can still find this interesting. If I view this as a more realistic case where nothing that remarkable is going to happen, it's easier to keep reading.

@pajamawolfie thanks for spotting the typo!

I do wonder if Mister would actually die though since: (live action spoilers ahead)

Mister dies in the drama + Sachi follows a year or so later. The author said things are gonna be a lot different in the manga so maybe he won't die 🤔

But then again, they also wrote out the detectives completely so it's hard to say. Maybe it's just my wishful thinking.

overall, this actually redraw the definition of life through black and white, not only clearer but seems greyer in the middle.

Agree with everyone having a miserable past getting contrived. Hopefully no more sob stories, there's only so much pity I can spare.

I'm glad the direction this manga took though with the detective. The 'homeless girl lives with lonely man' is quite common in manga due to weeb fetishism, but this one approaches some aspects of that kind of realistically. And I'm being generous when I say 'realistically'. I think Sachi and Mask-kun are good characters, as well as mister budget L.

I wish for their happy endings. One where they're alive. But from the mangas I read so far the probability is low.

@kiero13 Sadly I'm 100% expecting some kind of bad ending since I don't know any similar manga that got a happy ending, I want to be wrong since at this point the bad ending itself is extremely cliched and overused. I won't be surprised if the Mister ends up surrendering and going to prison in the end.

@Vini although deep inside i'm wishing for a happy ending, a bad ending wouldn't be "cliché" it would be realistic, she's a psycho on the verge of mental collapse, the dude's a kidnapper with a HUUUUGE inferiority complex, and both are children so they can't make rational decisions, the detective is basically the only hope they got in a somewhat good ending: the girl gets taken while the dude surrenders, the problem is he still got no papers :/ i hope to see how the author will continue this

It's jarring how emotionless these people are, as in, how disconnected they are. It's normally annoying in your romcom where the heroine is all "what am i feeling," but holy cow this is just so depressing, but for legitimate reasons. Neither of them truly understand what they are feeling, and we as the readers understand why, which is what makes this all the more sad rather than frustrating (looking at you dense protagonists/heroines). Really glad the detective guys showed up. They're there to help them open up doors to more emotions and ideas, although as witnessed, these ideas can cause emotional disturbances for better or for worse. It's all up to their own choices now. I genuinely hope they both find the happiness they need.

For what I can tell, i think most of misters background was told already.
He was abandoned/lost child raised by an homeless man who killed himself in front of him ...
Mister is not in the legal system at all and for sure doesn’t know his roots ... the homeless men did what mister his doing to Sachi... didn’t take the child to the police so he could get educated properly.
Both Sachi and mister didn’t have the chance to learn real human interaction at all.
But I don’t know about Sachi ... trying to hurt others is so out of character when every time she just tried to kill herself when things went wrong ... it feels out of place.

@MelReinH That's what this author specializes, or is onky capable of, producing. If you look at their other works where it's romance focused, at best its shallow and unfulfilling, at worst it's twisted and tragic and not romance at all. I truly believe the author is incapable of writing successful, fulfilling romance.
