Oop that detective is way too casual about someone trying to take their own life, although I don't see how justice plays a part here (besides from the injustice causing her to attempt suicide).
In any case she should be glad for him interrupting her because I think that knife would allow you to die from bleeding at best. This might take quite a painful while...
