Man this series is so dumb. What's the point of the grand summoning if all the important characters have an escape item.
I really wanna like this series, but god the awful pacing (it feels like I skip an entire volume after each chapter) and the plethora of grammar errors in the translation make this really hard to enjoy. Too bad the novel is mtl too.

I don't think it's a power scaling issue. With the reaper, he had time to prepare to face it. Here, he wasn't expecting it so became careless.

I think it's a bit of fresh air from the run-of-the-mill power fantasy for the MC to fail in reasonable circumstances.

It's a girl. Page 2 shows a list of the story characters. So if you're ever in doubt about the gender of a character you can refer to that.

I remember Suou Koki is a guy in web novel. "Koki" also sounds like a guy name to me. But manga is adapted from Light novel which maybe different from web novel. So I don't know.

Now, I have some proof that Suou is a guy.

According to Vol. 3 chapter 14, Suou wore left-over-right uniform shirt, just like any other male students. And every female students wear right-over-left uniform. Just any shirts in our real world.

Well, there maybe plot twist (?) in the future, but for now I believe Suou is a guy.

Personally I think the situation is the same with he reaper guy. I don't think they have time to prepare at all. It's just in one fight he has a Deus ex machina moment while on the other it's noticably absent.
