that vengeance is hollow. [...] it doesn't bring anyone back or repair the damage already done.
Pacifist drivel. That doesn't mean it can't bring closure or that it shouldn't be exacted. His current state is mostly because of his sisters death and the associated guilt of it. Now that he finished the message and (somewhat) knows what that piece of shit rapist did with his own daughter he has an actual chance to move. The problem was less the action itself and more the lack of information surrounding the whole situation. Would he have felt better? Not necessarily. But he wouldn't guilt trip as hard. This story is highlighting the consequences of bad communication and the resulting lack of information more than anything. As a secondary result, it also shows why it's so difficult when it happens to young people, not just children but young adults as well: An idealistic/naive worldview doesn't lend well to rational action or educated decision-making. What happened with the teacher was just, but MC wasn't the right person for that job.
Bruh... what? I understand the dad being mad at Shiika because she "killed his wife", but how does he then turn around and become a rapist who rapes Yuri? I thought his backstory was gonna be that he's a pervy man who was always staring at Yuri, but instead it seems like an almost entirely unprovoked crime of opportunity. What is his motive for raping Yuri?
CAN WE HAVE NOT A SAD BACK STORY FOR THE RAPIST JUST FOR ONCE JAPAN?
Not every thing should be explained you know. Can we just let a rapist be an actual rapist?
His background really doesn’t make him any more sympathetic nor attempt to provide justifications or explanation for the rape. It gives insight on why he resents his daughter but it isn’t excusing his behavior.
It makes sense. POS' is depressed and abuses his daughter to an unknown degree, a girl that looks like his late wife tries to "confront him" and then he snaps. This is a series of unfortunate events. Also, lookalikes can cause a wide range of reactions. It makes sense that that girl looking like his wife might get him aroused.
It is an explanation, but it just makes me hate him even more.

This story would be much easier to read if the MC didn't blame himself for the murder or even consider himself a murderer. He did nothing morally wrong there, he just broke the sociel order and sat his time for that. If he didn't blame himself, he could have also silenced those idiot coworkers. If his only regret was not being able to save his sister, it would be much better. Alas, all the central characters in this story bear deep psychological problems, so it can't be helped. It's the theme.
You are correct ... sadly this is Japan and Social Stigma there stays. And it is often utterly cruel and unjust. For many people that will hear about him the only thing that will stay is he "He killed a man and sinned". The reason doesn't matter.
Of note it did matter to the courts at least. Japan has absolutely no chill about Self-justice but he still served a notable short time for it so they found evidence of the rape and considered it in their ruling, a decently rare thing considering Japan's rather notorious justice system.

Holy shit yuri is actually braindead. The entire time they made it look like the pedo kidnapped her or some shit
But she straight up just screwed herself. What the fuck did she scream at MC for? He wasnt at fault in the slightest
The guy did his time. Society should already forgive him if he said that he killed his sister's rapist who also led her to suicide.

He was justified!
Foreigner commenting on jap culture is always funny
Also, getting mad at the child for being born and killing the mother is peak braindead.
I mean its kind of true? Despite being utterly braindead mothers choosing to die over aborting does happen
Yeah this is why the manga's interesting, because it's a theme we usually don't see in manga: that vengeance is hollow. His sister's still dead, and all he has is the understanding that he killed someone's father along with the fact that he couldn't save his sister. Even if the manga has gone out of its way to show that he was perfectly justified and actually did the undeniably right thing(he was abusing his own children, too, which isn't that much of a turn for a violent sex offender), it doesn't bring anyone back or repair the damage already done.

Violence hurting those who do it feels rare in manga, and its a point here. The girl who stabbed the insane boy on accident also felt distraught, even though she was totally in the right, didn't even mean to do it, and the kid lived. But she still felt guilty about harming another human being, something that normal human beings all feel.
"Revenge bad" is neither new nor interesting
I want a story about how there need to be consequences for peoples actions instead
Is this not heavily undercut by the fact that she kills herself and tells people (via suicide note) only slightly later? Possibly the very same day? Mabe a few days tops? Like ok she doesn't tell them about Shiina being abused, but if that's what the teacher was saying she shouldn't tell anyone about then both her and the teacher are incredibly fucking stupid.
Cheapest fucking drama ever. Contradictory characters. Fucking hell, how was this written by the same person who wrote the early chapters that were actually good?
The switch from "I'll protect you shiika" to "Its my brothers fault I will hang myself" is pretty abrupt yeah
She did a total 180 on the way home

She didn't hang herself because of that, I went back and her Suicide note just had what happened to her. The rest was the guy's imagination born from a shit ton of untreated guilt. She had an outburst after she came home (which might be the source of that) but quickly catched herself. She had the whole way home to let what happened to her sink in and it broke her badly. The rest is history.
Honestly the way peoples treatment of him after he left jail was depicted felt to me like a critique on that aspect of Japans society and not "revenge bad". More like "look at these two victims with a serious case on untreated mental illness, they need help".

might just be the trauma... all hitting her once she got home, she stayed strong while Shiina was there, but once she left, her mentally just broke.
alot of suicides are kinda on the spot moments and many people that have survived their attempts have stated how much they regretted it...
Yeah, to be clear I see no issue with Yuri breaking down a bit later, that's perfectly normal. It's more that Shiika and bro both seem to get, uh, idk what to call it, a bunch of salvation/acceptance from the recording when they both know that immediately after she kills herself and tells people (instead of protecting Shiika and/or not telling anyone).
Maybe hearing Yuri say that would offer some brief respite, but Shiika is depressed and actively suicidal, as soon as she thinks about what actually happened afterwards I feel like she'd have a lot of trouble believing the recording is Yuri's true feelings (even though it is).

I think people are also forgetting the fact that these people are children, they aren't grown adults and even grown adults don't always make smart decisions.

Why he raped Yuri?

Because she reminded of his wife, he is fucked in the head.

Why did Yuri confront him about abuse?

Probably because being naive and she thought it's just that, but without clear evidence as Shiika refused to tell the truth.
Yuri tried to gather evidence, maybe he would spill the beans or act nervous, that would be enough to the police.

Why suicide even if she was there for Yuri?

After being physically abused and raped, she didn't think clearly. It all flooded through the night and couldn't bare with it, it's unreasonable but being through something like that it may push a cheerful till this point person to do unthinkable. It might be disgust or it might be shame, but it was too overwhelming to bare.

Man, what a piece of shit pedophile. Hope he gets stuffed anally by a pineapple in hell throughout eternity.

Thanks for scanlation!

I'm super glad you got so angry at an undeniable truth that you literally ignored the things I said.

Cause I said that what he did wasn't just justified, but was the right thing to do. But guess what? It doesn't bring his sister back, and he has to deal with the fact that he killed someone now. These are undeniable truths. Vengeance is hollow. It doesn't bring back anyone, doesn't reset anything. This is something we've all understood for a very long time. Even if killing that guy is objectively the right thing to do and would lead to the best outcome, which it does in this case, it doesn't reverse anything and all the loss and grief he felt didn't change. Communication doesn't really matter here, because guilt is internal, dude, and the whole problem he had is that after he killed the child rapist he realized that his daughter watched him kill him.

"Revenge bad" is neither new nor interesting

Cool, you literally just read one. You literally just read how child abuse led to someone's suicide, which lead to a justified murder, which lead to the collapse of a family and two children having to deal with being the children of a child rapist who is now dead, while the mother of the child who committed suicide had to both grieve over the loss of her daughter but also come to terms with what it means that her son killed someone. The son then had to come to terms with what it meant to kill someone's dad.

Manga usually has vengeance as an end point. The buildup and tension is around how the vengeance will occur, what the plan to carry it out is, and the action of vengeance. What happens after very rarely gets brought up. This manga is entirely about the aftermath of a justified killing of a child rapist, and how even though it was right, it's not a clean thing that there's no fallout from. These ARE the consequences of people's actions. A dude decided to rape children, and it shattered the family of his victim, his own family, he got killed, and that action forever changed the life of the kid who killed him. There. Consequences. They're ugly and shitty for everyone.

I'm sorry I'm the one who has to tell you this, but have you considered that you might be stupid? It's a serious possibility, and I really think you should look into it. It's not completely reversable, but if treated, its worst effects can be mitigated, especially if caught early. I'd really recommend taking some serious time to investigate this. The longer it goes undetected, the harder it becomes to treat and the worse the outcome is, not only for yourself, but for the people around you.

Because the entire fucking point of my sentence there is that everything, literally everything, is the fault of the rapist. Killing him has been shown to be the objectively correct thing to do. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't have consequences. For everyone. For his family, for the family of the person who killed him, for the family of the child who committed suicide because of his actions. Not killing him would've had consequences, too. Probably worse ones. But so does killing him.

This comment section just shows first hand proof of why mental health has such a stigma around it.

Some people here seriously expect children to be fine after getting brutally raped, instead of blaming the perpetrator, they blame the victim for committing suicide and call the story unrealistic and drama filled because of it.

Some people here expect people and family members around victims to ignore the issue and as if nothing happened which just makes it worse and causes mental health to be stigmatized even more.

It pains me to see people actually thinking that the victims of horrible events and people act like... victims mean they have a victim complex.
