Calm down
Stay alive until 2050 or so and the Hobbit and LOTR will all be in the public domain, assuming manga as a medium still exists then

and fwiw a Japanese anime director is getting a shot at Tolkien but honestly I have no expectations for it

This can't be the ending. Will has yet to FUZ RO DAH all over the continent, showcasing his newly acquired dragonborn powers, under the guidance of Godd Howard.

Feels like a good ending point. Enough to leave to our imagination without over explaining or jumping the shark on some pants on head stupid plotline. It's okay to have an ending. I'm looking at you To Your Eternity.

The architecture in this manga sometimes gives me headaches.

When it enters public domain depends on the local laws. All the novels and related writings are already public domain in New Zealand, but in some places it might not be until 2092 that everything enters the public domain.

In the USA, the series will be enter the public domain between 2031 (The Hobbit, 1st edition) and 2050 (Return of the King), but those using it may run into issues with the rights to some of the notes persisting until 2072. In other places, the rights don't expire until up to 70 years after the author's death, creating the 2092 figure for the entire series even if the works by JRR will be entering in 2043~2044.
hence why I said 2050 or so, it’d totally depend on Japanese copyright law and the relevant treaties between Japan and the countries where the copyright originated

Not like anyone could do any worse than Amazon is with Rangs of Power right now.
That's because Amazon doesn't have the rights to Tolkien's works besides the Hobbit and tLotR, so everything MUST be Legally Distinct™️
Of course they could have at least TRIED not to make it crap...
