You mean the cat?
No, if you mean the adandara he's already a permanent member, heavy spoilers; Ivy rescues a wounded man(lost an arm too) once leaving this town, and after that and a volume's worth of interactions, he becomes sort of stepdad to her, and all the subsequent ln volumes are about the two traveling together, of course along with her slimes and the Adandara also.

It’s not particularly long. Just one volume of the light novel In a series that has at least 9 or 10 volumes
That's still rather long. Especially since there's so much of the arc that's basically just talking and not moving forward much.

On the other hand, there are more arcs that have the same pace, as this isn't exactly a fast-paced story.

The main problem for me was the length, coupled with the time between releases, meant I kept losing track of who's who. I kept having to go back and figure out who was on what side of the conflict and what the plan was.

Yeah, that's a bit tricky. I tend to just sort them in three categories: good guy, bad guy, Ivy.

Yeah but right now it takes up literally half of the released manga. This one arc is as long as everything that came before it combined. Obviously it's going to seem way longer and throw off the pacing compared to the momentum the series had previously.

That’s also pretty accurate to the LN lol. This story is the 2nd volume so it is literally half the story

I’m certainly curious why it’s not as well liked in manga format. I loved this so much when reading the ln that I basically binged it in a day.

That’s a good point. When reading the ln, it was 1 continuous story that made sense and was easy to follow. It was freaking exciting to read! But monthly manga releases kinda f that up. I’m curious if someone would enjoy it more as a binge

This one was still only 1 volume. Future ones will be 2 volumes long.

The problem here isn't the length but too many characters and too many things going on, the artist is also jumping scenes a bit. The following arcs have smaller cast with more distinct roles and straight forward plots so it should be easier to follow

Wasn't she cross-dressing as a boy? How did the traffickers figure out her disguise?
Even the adventurers protecting her, do they know that she's a girl?

I'm pretty sure there would be buyer segment that would be interesting in young boy sex slaves. So I don't think it would matter what gender Ivy ends being if she was kidnapped and sold. The criminal organization would just offer her as a product to a different set of buyers.

I remember the few people who kept up with the anime complaining about this arc's length too
