@VincentYamato in such a world, it's obvious you'd at least check what you're eating if you're able to, it's not a matter of trust it's a matter of survival.
She could've truly given to him with the best thoughts in the world but to him it could've been something deadly since he's not from this world, he could be allergic or whatever, he doesn't even have an ounce of knowledge regarding what he just swallowed.
I'm not saying it was an obvious trap (even tho for us readers, it was) but carelessness leads to death, you just don't eat something a total stranger gave you like that when you can appraise it perfectly.
It doesn't hurt to take a look at it for a second and then eat it knowing it's safe (then you later accept this kind of food knowing it's good for you and THEN end up in a trap because this one time it was poisoned or w/e, but here he took something he doesn't know at all from a stranger he had never seen, come on).
Edit: and yeah, didn't even bother with looking a last time at the mini-map when you have such a cheat convenient item... ffs
